Microsoft® FrontPage® 2000 Default Form Processor (cont'd)

Form Properties

Now you must define what you would like Microsoft® FrontPage® 2000 form processor to do with the data that has been entered into your form by the Internet user. You have several options for how you would like the data treated. We will cover just one option as all of the options require that you follow the same steps.

First, click on any form field (text box, radio button, etc.) with the right-mouse-button and choose "Form Properties". When the properties screen appears, choose "WebBot Save Results Component" (as seen below) and click on the "Settings" button.

After you have selected the "Settings" button, you will be given several options. Save the data to a text file, HTML file (for viewing your data via WWW), text file in delimited format (typically for use in importing the data into a database later), etc. I have chosen to save the data in a Formatted Text file and I have assigned that text file the name of "results.txt" (as seen below). You may also choose which data to include in the file. Besides the actual form data, you may want to know what type of browser the Internet user was using at the time he/she completed your form, the date the form was processed, time, etc. All of these options may be included by simply clicking in the corresponding box.

You may want the data to be saved in a text file *and* a HTML file. This will allow you to view the data via WWW and still have that data available in a text file for later use. See Advanced Form Properties.

Next, you will want to define a page which will be displayed after the Internet user clicks on the "Submit" button. Click on the "Confirm Tab" and you will be asked for a file name or Internet address. I have chosen to display my home page (index.htm) after the Internet user clicks "Submit". I chose this page by clicking on the "Browse" button which will show me all available files on my system. You may also want the Internet user to be "redirected" to another page after submission, such as to a "thank you" page.  In this case, you would want to enter a different filename where I have entered "index.htm" (example: thanks.html) (please see below).

Finally, you may want to save the results of your form in an additional format for later or current use. since I have already chosen to save the data in a text file, I will now ask the form to save the data in a HTML file so that I may view it via WWW whenever I want to. I have chosen to save the results in another file called "results.htm". This should be a new file name. FrontPage will create the file for you so you need only come up with a unique name.

Now click "Save" and test your form!
